Sometimes you need to divest yourself of old thoughts and themes. Back to basics is the popular catch phrase these days. Go back and manipulate, explore and stretch what you can with the elements and principles of art. Clear the mind. Stand in front of a blank canvas and just “go for it”.

Each work had to begin with two straight and three curved lines. I trust myself to evolve the surface based on experience and understanding gathered over my artistic lifetime. Whereas previous paintings have been about messages and attitudes, these works will have to resonate with the viewer in their own time. You have to give them a name!

Even with more obvious works I am often surprised to hear how others are unpicking and considering the visual images before them. Whereas I have stuck to the dictum that ART = LIFE this time I have flipped it to consider what your LIFE is seeing in my ART. These paintings should enable the spectator to follow their own thoughts and interpretations and give it their own conclusion. Maybe I’m the one who has to learn the lesson.
